A project by one or more students (and some examples by teachers) that uses Power Point to explicate a text, making it come alive through animation, effects, and music in a way that shows an understanding of the text as well as giving the audience (other students and the teacher) a new way to look at that text.

This illuminated text is all about the parallels of Dante and why he is having a hard time reaching his "Mount of Joy" with IL Postino's fisherman being held back to his "Mount of Joy." Also it also brings into account the common "sins" we see in the world and how it is holding us back from being a utopia just like with the fisherman and Dante.

Summary-As Leo Gursky would say, there are not words for everything. I believe this holds true for the atrocities of war. It is a difficult task to show how terrible war is, and this book comes close to it, yet it still manages to glorify war in some ways. Through the use of actual photos from the war, and piano music played by non other than ourselves we try to portray an emotion that is indescribable with words. We attempt to capture the emotions of war through the harmony of the music, seamlessly blended with WWI photos.

This illuminated text is mainly about Tjaden and Kropp's thoughts on war. Tjaden questions why they, as young men have to fight when it's the countries who have issues with one another. But how does a mountain insult another mountain? Kropp comments that a declaration of war should be like a popular festival where only the heads of state, their generals, and such, fight it out in a singular arena(since they are the ones that called for the war they should fight it), rather then sends thousands of young men, who have not yet lived their lives, to go fight and die. Yet this is not the case.

In this illuminated text I was trying to portray the complex relationship between Paul and his fellow troops members especially Kat. I used the song “Ghost of You” by My Chemical Romance. This song showed a profound connection between ‘All Quiet’ and the war going on not only in World War 1, the Iraqi War and war as a whole.

In this illuminated text, I decided to use less animation, and let the words and music portray my message. I wanted my song to reflect the deep tragedy that the words are filled with. Instead of a lot of cool technical tricks I decided to use less, and to make my words move slower and more dramatically. For this piece I also took lines from the poem "Agony" by Mark R. Slaughter and combined them with the lines from All Quiet. What drew me in to this poem were the lines "Dying in our agony, we make a sorry nation", which you will see used in this text.

One of the many ways that author Erich Maria Remarque tries to portray the life of a soldier (along with the physical and mental damage of a soldier through war) in "All Quiet on the Western Front" is by echoing their experiences with that of animals. For example, in Chapter 4, he uses the unnecessary death of a horse on the front who essentially had done nothing wrong other than being at the front to reflect the death of millions of soldiers during combat.

This is a different form of an Illuminated text, it is an Illuminated text in the form of a movie. This Illuminated text depicts the struggles that Paul wen through in All Quiet on the Western Front. I believe that this text is extremely relevant to today, with what is going on in the middle east. This Illuminated text tries to cover the struggles of war. Specifically the emotional toll, and how it effects the way Paul see's the world. I chose songs of silence for the title because this book reminded me of people not actually saying what they wanted to say.

This illuminated text reflects the main themes that are displayed throughout the poem, Deor. The Anglo-Saxon poem, Deor, is trying to convey to the readers of the beautiful poem that despite the ups and downs of life, those experiences will pass by and your life will continue to go on. The famous and repeated line throughout Deor is: "That went by; so can this".

This is an illuminated text of the "History of Love". The excerpt was taken from page 230 of the book. It appears as one of the last pages of the book; where Leo and the younger Alma meet. We illuminated Leo's love for Alma and his unknowing of the truth in his life. It tells the story of his struggle to except what is real versus what he believes.

The poem Wulf and Eadwacer shows the separation of a distraught couple. Wulf is being hunted down and might be killed because he and his love have a child together; this is a huge problem because Wulf and Eadwacer are from two totally different tribes.
The music is "Clair de Lune" by Claude Debussy.

This is an Illuminated Text on Before Summer Rain by Rainer Maria Rilke. In this illuminated text we take the poem and we use the word to describe the images seen. The poem is about reflecting back on your lost childhood. How our childhood drifts away with out our noticing, and we just have the memories.

The illuminated text "Desertion" brings the Anglo Saxon poem "The Wife's Lament" to life. We chose this poem because we were drawn to the emotions portrayed by the wife and were interested to see how we could try and convey these feelings to the viewer. This illuminated text is rather eerie, with a dark background, bold colors, and music with an intense build. We believe that this shows the sadness, anger, desperation, and sense of loneliness that the wife expresses.

This poem, from its name, sounds happy and light but it is not. There are many dark adjectives used. Death is also a topic. The author speaks of pain so we really tried to convey it through this illuminated text. Also we tried to animate the words of the poem as much as possible.

We illuminated an excerpt for the History of Love. We explored the relationship between Leo and the younger Alma at the end of his life. In our text Leo exploring what is real and what he is imagining. He is coming to term with the fact that most of the things he he sees are imaginary. Our text all discusses how Alma adores Leo and for her he would do anything.
