I Have Not Been Unhappy My Whole Life!
Submitted by yellowcurl22 on Tue, 2009-11-03 17:20
Bird is a unique character in that he tries to find permanence in his life in such a way that is very different from the other characters. He, just like the rest of his family, misses his father, but he copes with the 'hole" in his heart by founding an unshakable belief in God. THis illuminated text explores Bird's goals and relationships. In the end, the story is resolved with Bird helping his sister.

I liked how she used the word
I liked how she used the word whole to during the illuminated text. She made the W disappear from the word whole, which meant the hole Bird had in his heart from his father’s death, mother’s loneliness, and his distance from Alma. I also liked the pictures since it flowed with the meaning of the quotes. One particular one that I liked was when Bird was standing at the Lemon stand and the quote about a man space is what he makes use of it appeared. Once that appeared, she made him walk around the trash. This helped me visualize the actions and cope with the overall feeling of the Illuminated Text. I thought she was trying to apply Birds efforts and pain into the text also. And that went well with the rain background.
I also liked the sudden mood change from Bird sadness, to his efforts, and lastly to his determination. I especially liked the quote when Bird said don’t worry about the flood because he’ll save them. To me it meant that he was focused, which the illustrations of the lemonade stand helped show also. Lastly, I thought that the word Life at the beginning of the Illuminated text told us what the text was going to be about. And since life is full of troubles and efforts it told us we’ll read and see about Bird troubles and efforts as well.
This is a great flash. I
This is a great flash. I don't know why no one have comment on it yet. It is great to see someone actually have his/her flash on Bird, the one people care the least. They have done a great job on using different tech. with CS4. The onion skinning was applousable. Two little setback: I dont hear any backgroud music, and the text could be slower. Over all a amazing flash.
