Hamlet - An animated film by Kerry Ferrantella
This animation of Act 1, Scene 1 of Hamlet is done with skill, wit, and creativity by Kerry Ferrantella and his classmates. Kerry used the free program Windows Movie Maker to animate the still drawings that he had created and then they created the voice overs. The overall effect is astonishing and original. Mr. Ferrantella's teacher is Ian McCarthy, also of Whitney Young High School -- and I am greatful to him and Kerry for allowing us to share this on the website. Hamlet Act 4 scene recreation
Students will read Hamlet Act 4 for critical analysis. They will recreate the scene and will present it to class. With this activity they will be reading and analyzing in order to decide which parts of the scenes can be omitted, altered and/or tweak without losing the main concept or key elements of the plot line.
Hamlet Game Board
At the end of my Hamlet unit, rather than give a standard test I have students create Hamlet Gameboards. I find this is a wonderful way to assess the students overall knowledge about Hamlet. I got the idea to create games as a way of assessing from a technical writing Website. I have received games that range for Hamlet Trivial Pursuit to Twister. I also like this idea because it can be adapted to any piece of literature and used at any grade level.
Students are to create a gameboard out of Hamlet that will help students review Hamlet in a fun and interesting way. To do this they will:

This backwards design unit plan contains essential questions, activities, and journal questions. Essential questions may be used to connect the Hamlet unit to other units in the curriculum and include:
1. What happens when we allow power, vengeance, love, and other forms of passion to rule our lives? (When) Is the pursuit of revenge a worthwhile endeavor?

Green Ophelia: An Illuminated Text on Shakespeare's Hamlet
This Illuminated Text on Hamlet was created by Mike Berry, Alan Barnstead, Zack Anzalone, and Mike Nathanachack.Although this is one of the first attempts at producing an illuminated text, we are proud of its representation of the Hamlet, specifically the various tensions faced by Ophelia and her inability to manage those conflicts. It also alludes to some of the more obvious causes behind those tensions, which are consciously or unconsciously known to her.

Hamlet Famous Quotes
I use this powerpoint as a way to either preview or review important quotes from different characters in Hamlet. Students sometimes get in small groups and use dry-erase boards to be the first group to write the correct character. Once a winner is selected, that group must offer context and significance about the quote. Being able to elaborate upon Shakespeare's purpose with the quote, and any other literary significance is always a bonus. Upon completion of the entire play, students choose one quote to illustrate.
