An Introduction to Shakespeares Sonnet Per D Dec 1, 2010

This recording details a lecture/discussion on four of Shakespeare's Sonnets.  For the first three - we look at the Sonnets on the projector (and the students on their handouts that I have given them).  The way I have set it up - we reveal one or two lines at a time so we can take it in small steps - and the poems  reveal themselves in a wonderful way.  The final sonnet is a personal take - based on my own experience reading the  poem at my wedding and what that poem means to me.

Four Elizabethan Poems (Donne, Marlowe, Shakespeare) - Period A - Feb 28, 2011

Four poems - two by John Donne, one by Chris Marlowe, one sonnet by Shakespeare.  I put the poems up on the overhead (the Power Point and Handout can be found here).  I give no answers in the discussion - but do ask questions that require that the students think about what is going on in the poem - the actual text.

An Introduction to Shakespeare's Sonnets

Of all of my lecture/class discussions - this is one that I am particularly fond of.  We read discuss and talk about four of Shakespeare's Sonnets.  I uncover line by line and we try to determine what is happening in the text.  I end with the very personal story of the sonnet that I read at my wedding (116).

Four Sonnets by Shakespeare - A Personal View 2009

One of my favorite classes all year to teach.  This year I finally moved from the overhead to Power Point - so I was a little nervous.  We look at four Sonnets in depth - each based on a close textual ananlysis - uncovering one line at a time - and end with a very personal story about my own wedding and Sonnet 116.

Shakespeare's Sonnets - An Introduction - Period 7

Four sonnets in one period - we could spend a period on one line.  We begin with "Shall I Compare thee to a Summer's Day," and talk about the irony of Shakespeare saying that he can't compare his love to a summer's day - only to masterfully do it in the end.  The discussion ends with a personal look at Sonnet 116.
