Wanting the Unattainable: A class discussion of E.B. White's "The Second Tree from the Corner."

We discuss - in fact, we read the story aloud and stop along the way with our comments and questions, E.B. White's story about a man who sees a therapist, only to realize that the things he wants, like "the second tree from the corner," are the things that are unattainable and that keep him going from day to day.

Sounds of Whitney Young: Something Special to Linda

I first came to Whitney Young in 2005 as an ackie. This is my fifth year at this school and over the course of my time here, I have definitely built up memories. I think this is a great project for the future and I can't wait to look back to my high school years and remember everything that happened. With this recording, I can look back and also listen back to everything that was special to me.

Jame Joyce's "Araby" a class discussion - April 16, 2010

One of my favorite stories in the entire world - and though I haven't taught it in a while - this discussion showed me once again, its power.   In this discussion we read the story aloud - stopping when I (or the students) have something to say.  I also showed them a Power Point presentation that gives them some serious clues into the great epiphany that occurs in the tale.

An Opening Class Discussion of The House On Mango Street pgs. 1-32 May 3, 2011

This is the final year of teaching my World Literature Class - at least as it exists now - and I decided to end the year with the book that I first taught.  I cannot say enough about how much I love and appreciate this book - which reads in many was as an extended prose poem.  As the class comes in, and as they're taking their quizzes, I play these songs.  Next, we  go over some Stephen Booth moments that can be found in the opening paragraph - the worksheet for that
